Richland County Park District
The Richland County Park District and is dedicated to introducing and interpreting our region's natural
heritage to the citizens of Richland County. Our goal is pursued by preserving natural areas for
people to experience, and by providing opportunities for people of all ages to learn about the rich
diversity of life and habitats in our county.
The Richland County Park District operates two
facilities- The Gorman Nature Center and The Richland B&O Trail.

Gorman Nature Center
Featuring 150 acres of forests, fields, prairies, ponds and streams, the Center provides over three
miles of public trails close to the population centers of Richland County. Families and individuals are
welcome on the trails or in the Center's visitor center and picnic areas. The Gorman Nature Center
naturalist staff sponsors weekly
programs for the public featuring a wide variety of hikes, field trips,
lectures, slide programs and night sky programs. In addition, the Center offers daily programs for
schools, youth groups, garden clubs, seniors citizens and service clubs. Public programs are listed in
the "
Friends of the Nature Center Newsletter."

If you are planning a visit to the Gorman Nature center, please review these regulations in order
to preserve the GNC in a natural wild condition for all to safely enjoy:
1. GNC grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk only.  Use of the park at night is prohibited unless
authorized by Park District staff.  
2. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at all times.  
3. All trails are for hiking and skiing only and are strictly closed to bicycles, horses, and any motorized
4. All plants and animals are protected and should not be removed or tampered with in any way.
5. Visitors are prohibited from releasing wild or domestic animals on GNC grounds.  
6. There should be no camping, swimming, or open fires on GNC grounds. Hunting, trapping, and
fishing are also prohibited.
7. Trails may be used for dog walking granted the dog is on a leash. If you are using the trails for dog
walking please be responsible and clean up after your dog.

Richland B&O Trail
The Richland County Park District also operates the Richland B&O Trail, a public rail-trail built on
the abandoned B&O railroad line. The 18.4-mile trail connects Mansfield, Lexington, Bellville and
Butler and is used for bicycling, walking, jogging, in-line skating and nature study, but NOT
